Samsung Galaxy F17 and F16 Are Now Getting One UI 8.5. Here's What's New

Samsung has started rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update to the Galaxy F17 and the Galaxy F16, with India among the first countries receiving it. The rollout is live now and both phones are getting it at the same time.

Firmware Versions and File Sizes

The Galaxy F17 update carries firmware version E176BXXU5CZE9 and weighs in at 2,521.67MB. The Galaxy F16 update comes with firmware version E166PXXU5DZE2 and is 2,400.79MB in size. Both are substantial downloads, so connecting to Wi-Fi before starting is the practical approach.

To check for the update on your Galaxy F17 or F16, go to Settings, then Software update, then tap Download and install. If the update has reached your region it will appear immediately. Samsung stages rollouts in waves, so if nothing appears today, checking again over the next few days is the most reliable approach.

What One UI 8.5 Brings to These Devices

Both the Galaxy F17 and F16 are receiving the same core One UI 8.5 package that has been rolling out across the wider Galaxy lineup since May. The update brings a noticeably refreshed interface with new transparency and blur effects throughout the system, giving the entire UI a cleaner appearance compared to what these phones shipped with.

Bixby has been upgraded with improved natural language understanding, a new Conversation History section for reviewing past interactions, and Perplexity integration for pulling information from the web more effectively. The Camera app gains three new film-style filters that add a cinematic tone and texture to photos directly in the viewfinder without requiring any post-processing.

The lock screen gains additional clock font options and new automatic layout options that adapt based on wallpaper content. New downloadable wallpapers have also been added. The Clock app now includes a built-in time zone converter. The Weather app adds a pollen index display. The Reminders app gets early alert notifications that trigger ahead of a deadline. Samsung Notes gains table support with formatting controls, and the Calculator app now reads clipboard content and proactively suggests relevant calculations.

The Device Care section has been redesigned with a cleaner battery information layout, and Theft Protection has been added a security feature that makes a stolen device significantly harder to reset or resell without the owner's credentials.

A Quick Note on Feature Availability

The Galaxy F17 and F16 are mid-range and budget devices, so the full Galaxy AI feature set available on Galaxy S and Z series hardware does not carry over to these models. Features like Call Screening, Advanced Audio Eraser, and the agentic multi-step Bixby workflows require higher-end NPU hardware. What these phones do receive is the Awesome Intelligence tier of Galaxy AI, which covers the features listed above alongside the core One UI 8.5 visual and usability improvements.
